A-line dress with dolman sleeve and drawstrings

Style analysis: this dress has a fitted bodice that accentuates the waist, leading into an A-line skirt that flares slightly towards the hem. It features a V-shaped neckline with delicate crisscross straps that form a unique detail around the neck. The sleeves are long and have a ruched design created by the drawstring. The tie starting at neck arrives to wrist, allowing for some adjustability to sleeve fullness and texture.

Fabric: lightweight, woven fabric as cady, satin or crepe, viscose, silk or polyester. Should be something smooth and flowing material, which adds to the overall elegance and ease of movement.

Step 1

Trace your basic dress with darts and 10cm wearing ease at bust circ.
our method for drafting and fitting it is included in our basic blocks course/module 1.

Adjust length to 5cm past knee or desired measurement, then flare skirt by 4 to 7cm on sides, blending to zero at hip to waist section.

Cut through waistline to separate bodice and skirt.

Step 2

On back and front skirt, square down from dart apex to hemline, then cut from hemline all the way up and tape darts closed.

Step 3

Here you see the skirt pieces with darts manipulated into additional volume at hemline.

Trace a copy of sleeve and cut it in the middle.
