A- line mini dress

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this short dress.

It has spaghetti straps, a deep V neckline and a mini skirt. The trick to have is standing away from the hips is to use a slightly stiff fabric and eventually silk organza as interlining - this will support the fabric giving it more structure without adding weight.

Start from a basic block with darts and minimum wearing ease.

Step 1

On back and front, first draw the new neckline – straight from the armpit to center back and with a deep V in center front.

Then, flare 4-6cm from side seams at hem and square down from the waist darts.

Step 2

Cut through the slash line to separate the two back pieces.

Add 4-6cm to each side and draw a new line ending to the waist. Mind that it is slightly curved, shape has to be the same on both pieces.

Step 3

Trace a copy of center back and side back.
