Asymmetric blouse

Pattern characteristics: asymmetry, collar, drape.

Style analysis: draped, sleeveless blouse featuring an asymmetric neckline, contrast color-block because collar and one side fold back showing the inner layer.

Fabric: soft and fluid fabric as silk satin, crepe or cady, in two contrasting colors to highlight construction details.

Step 1

Start from a basic block with darts – I suggest about 8cm ease at bust, 4cm at waist and hips, but exact ease does not matter as we’ll create a loose blouse. The only important part is to have a little ease in the waist to hip section for the top not to be too tight.

Work on full front:

  • draw the hemline (marked in red) 12 to 16cm below waistline
  • draw left shoulder (blue line) 5 to 6cm above original shoulder line
  • draw left side seam (orange line) connecting shoulder and hem outermost points.
Step 2

Now work on right side:

  • square up 9 to 13cm (purple line) from hemline for right side seam
  • draw right shoulder line (light blue) parallel to original one and 2,5cm above it, then lengthen line by 14 to 18cm past shoulder point. This extra length will be the part that fold back.
Step 3

Still on right side, connect side seam uppermost point to elongated right shoulder with a straight line (marked in red) to complete the ‘wing’ that fold back on right armhole.

Draw left armhole (red broken line) from shoulder point to side seam 5 to 7cm above waistline. Armhole is slightly curved (think about coming 1,5cm inwards in its middle section).
