Asymmetric dress with draped skirt

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this asymmetric dress. It features an off shoulder bodice and a one piece draped skirt that has a super interesting construction!

You can sew it in any lightweight, drapey fabric. Cotton, viscose, linen, silk and their blends are all great materials for this.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic dress with darts and small wearing ease (i.e. 6cm on the whole bust circumference and 4 to 6cm on waist and hip ones).

Step 1

Trace a copy of full front for the asymmetric style.

Draw the hemline 10cm below knee, then taper from side seams.

Step 2

Draw the slash line at waist and cut through it to separate bodice and skirt.

Step 3

Get the bodices and start working on half front only.

Draw both shoulder and waist darts ending at bust point and the slash line from bust point perpendicular to center front.

Cut through the slash line and close both darts.
