Asymmetric dress with flounce

4.5/5

Let's see the pattern for this asymmetric dress. It's a fake wrap dress: there is no overlap but a slanted seam in the bodice and a side zipper.

Start from a basic block with zero to minimum wearing ease and darts, and have fun transforming it into this style!

You can sew the dress in any light to medium weight fabric: cotton, viscose, silk..you'll get slightly different effects according to their drape but all will work!

Step 1

Start from full front and back for the asymmetric style.

Extend the skirt length, then draw the neckline for shoulder straps.

Step 2

Draw the ruffle lines:

  • on back, draw a parallel to the hem approx 15cm above it, then draw a side extension for side ruffle up to the waist
  • on front skirt, start from opposite side and draw the high-low hem first, then the ruffle from 15cm width to 3cm width
  • on front bodice, extend the neckline up to side seam at waist, then draw a parallel below it and trace the ruffle part on a separate sheet.
