Asymmetric dress with side slit

Style analysis: asymmetric dress with underbust cut, underbust darts, horizontal pintucks on front, high-low hemline, entra long sleeves and built-in side cape. So many cool details!

We suggest a medium weight knit as ponte, but a woven fabric with a little stretch as wool crepe would work as well!

To draft the pattern start from a basic block with darts on your own measurement - our method for drafting perfectly made to measure basic blocks and for fitting them is included in our basic blocks course/module 1. You will learn in depth also how to manipulate darts, add volumes and a lot of pattern transformations that will take your pattern making skills to a higher level ;)

Step 1

Trace back and front with full length, then mirror both of them to have the full shape.

On right side seam, measure down 5 to 10cm from hip level and draw the high-low hemline ending at original hemline 10 to 16cm from left side seam. Lines should be slightly curved.
Merge front and back at right side seam in a temporary way to make sure transition is smooth.

Step 2

Get front and cut through the new hemline. Highlight underbust dart, then widen waist darts so that they are 3cm at waist and 3cm at underbust, then shaped as rockets to bust point.

Raise 3 to 4cm from underbust dart in center front and side seams and draw a new underbust line, shaped as two U.

Step 3

Cut through the shaped underbust line, then cut through underbust darts and close shoulder ones.

Draw horizontal lines (1 above and 2 below waistline) evenly spaced, we suggest every 3 to 4cm, and cut through them. Cut also through original underbust line.
