Asymmetric flared skirt

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this asymmetric skirt.

It features an interesting slanted cut with a rectangular panel that gives volume to the hem.

It's a very versatile pattern: you can sew it in basically any fabric - form lightweight satin to thick gabardine or denim, wool, cotton, silk...you'll get different and different affects and volumes to play with.

Step 1

Start from a basic skirt.

First, you have to flare it:

  • make sure dart are matching in volume & length (alter them if they are not – a good measurement is 3cm width and 14cm length)
  • draw the line from dart apex all the way down, parallel to skirt center
  • flare 4 to 6cm on sides.
Step 2

Cut though the slash line coming from dart apex to hem, then close the dart and transfer the volume to the flared hem.
