Asymmetric illusion tulle flared dress

4.5/5

Let's see how to draft the pattern for this asymmetric dress. It fakes a one shoulder neckline, but the other shoulder actually has illusion tulle and a regular set in sleeve. The same fabric is also used in the asymmetric skirt panel.

To draft the pattern you can start from a contoured block with darts (if fabric has a little give or 2-4% stretch) or from a dress with darts and small wearing ease (if fabric is non stretch and/or has no give).

We suggest using a medium weight cady, crepe, crepe satin (all in silk or silk blends) with full lining for the black part and embroidered illusion tulle for the shoulder and sleeve sections. We would underline the skirt panel with a skin color lightweight fabric (as satin).

Step 2

Cut through the slash line on front and close darts in the upper section.

On the bigger piece, draw a side panel with round cut starting from side seam, 7 to 10cm above waistline. Draw a line straight from waist to hem.

Step 3

Square down from waist dart apex, then cut through the slash lines.
