Asymmetric party dress

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this super trendy dress. It has lots of interesting details as the asymmetric cutout and side slit, a single sleeve and a built-in bra.

You can sew it in any light to medium weight fabric - we suggest something with a little stretch to make it more fitted but still comfortable to dance :)

To work on the pattern, trace a copy of basic block with darts.

Step 1

First, mirror front to have the full shape.

Then draw the side cutout from center front neckline to right armhole approx 5cm above armpit, to right part of neckline 3 to 4cm past high shoulder point.

Then draw the first line for the other cutout starting from left shoulder line 3 to 5cm past high shoulder point, passing through waistline at right dart and ending in right side seam.

Step 2

This last slash line identifies the bra section. Draw the underbust line in it and widen waist dart to 3cm at underbust.

Step 3

Now draw the second line of the big cutout, ending at the lower part of left armhole.

Draw also the bra neckline and shoulder strap position, then widen shoulder dart by 1cm at neckline.
