Asymmetric pencil dress with flounce

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for pencil dress. It is about an interesting manipulation into a curved side panel where a flounce is added.

Start from a basic block with darts and matching basic sleeve. Choose ease allowance according to the fabric you are using (if it has a bit of stretch or not) and to the fit you prefer - we suggesting starting somewhere around 8cm on bust circumference, 4cm at waist one, 2cm at hip circumference, but you can vary the measurements to your taste.

Step 1

Trace a copy of basic block with full front for the asymmetric styleline. On front, manipulate shoulder darts to get french darts (ending in side seams).

Taper front and back skirt by 2cm at the hem line.

Shape center back slightly (around 1,5cm at back waistline).

Step 2

On back, reduce waist dart by 1,5cm to balance the volume taken from center.

On front, draw the new dart apex 3 to 5cm away from bust point.
