Asymmetric top with drape

4.5/5

Let'd draft the pattern for this dressy top.

It has a drape starting from the shoulder and a long neck tie.

To sew it, silk satin gives the effect you see in the last photo, but you could use any lightweight, drapey fabric.

Draft the pattern starting from a basic block with darts and minimum wearing ease (4-6cm at bust circumference, 4cm at hip, unfitted at waist).

Step 1

Start from back.

Lower the armholes by 2-3cm and draw the neckline from left side to right high shoulder point, then measure 8-10cm on shoulder line and draw the right armhole.

Cut through the lines.

Step 2

Divide the new shoulder line into 4 even sections and draw 3 slash lines, all of them coming up to the hip line: one ends in center back, the other two end at dart extension.

Erase the waist dart, as they are not needed for this unfitted style.

Step 3

Cut through the slash line starting from the shoulder.

Spread the pieces in a temporary way, as you will later need to balance the volume with front.

Set the back aside.
