Asymmetric tunic dress

Style analysis: flowy dress, maxi length, with dolman sleeve on one side and sleeveless on the other.

Fabric: crepe, satin, cady or polyester blends...flowy fabric, either in solid color or print.

Draft the pattern by starting from a basic dress with darts and 12cm ease on bust circumference - you can learn our method for drafting made to measure patterns in our basic blocks course/module 1.

Step 1

Trace front and adjust length to ground, then draw 3 slash lines to manipulate shoulder dart closed:

  • one slash line starts from shoulder midpoint to bust,
  • one slash line from bottom part of armhole to bust,
  • one line starts from side seam 7 to 8cm below armpit and ends in bust point.

Cut through all slash lines and tape shoulder dart closed.

Step 2

Distribute the volume coming from the closed dart in the 3 slash lines, evenly.

Trace a copy of the new front.

Step 3

Mirror front to have it full, then drop left shoulder line by 2cm and lengthen it outwards by 8 to 16cm.
