Back bow bridal dress

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this interesting dress.

It has a built-in collar, deep V neckline on front and open back, a mermaid skirt and sleeves that create an amazing back bow.

Start from a basic dress with darts and wearing ease minimum 6cm on bust circumference. You also need a matching basic sleeve.

We suggest a drapey, soft fabric as silk crepe or cady and eventually an interlining as organza to support the collar and waistband areas.

Step 1

Trace a copy of back and front bodice. Reduce the shoulder line by redrawing the armhole 2cm inward.

Draw the waistband 3-4cm wide on back and front, then draw the back neckline.

On front, draw the princess cut ending in armhole to manipulate shoulder dart, and redraw the waist one shaped to fit the underbust.

Step 2

Cut through all lines to separate the pieces.

Close darts on both waistbands and close shoulder dart on center front piece.

Step 3

Draw the back collar by joining neckline to neck shoulder point, and drawing the lines perpendicular to this one.

Create an additional dart in back neckline, approximately at the height of shoulder blades, to keep the dress tighter – as seen in our previous tutorial.

Step 4

Get front pieces and draw the front collar as done on back – first join neck shoulder point to center front neckline, then draw the collar perpendicular to this line.

Lastly, draw the front neckline by removing 1cm from center front and creating a smooth curve on the collar part.
