Bardot blouse with pleats

4.5/5

Let's see the steps to draft the pattern of this dressy blouse.

It features a bardot neckline, dolman sleeves with a low shoulder cut and pleats, a front draped wrap and a waistband.

The perfect fabric is something light to medium weight and drapey, as silk satin (if you like it to be shiny) or silk crepe (if you like mat fabrics more). Also viscose or blended fabrics will work.

Step 1

Start from a basic block with darts and a matching basic sleeve.

Start from the front, measure a point on the armhole 7-9cm above the armpit.

Draw a slash line from this point to bust point and cut through it.

Cut through the center of the sleeve.

Step 2

On front, using the new slash line open 1-2cm at the armpit. This way the shoulder dart will be reduced.

Step 3

Now get the front part of the sleeve and merge it to the front bodice, by matching the shoulder slope and overlapping shoulder and sleeve cap by 1cm.

Step 4

Trace a copy of the whole block adding 1cm on top of the new shoulder line.

Draw also a curve connecting the sleeve inseam and the bodice side seam, as you would do for dolman sleeve.

Step 5

Mark the two edges of this curve and the previous shoulder point with notches (reference for checking the pattern and sewing).

Step 6

Now add 8-9cm to center front for the wrap, raise 4-5cm and mark a point.

Widen the neckline by moving 5-8cm on the shoulder line and mark another point.

Connect the two points and draw the new neckline (slightly rounded looks nicer than totally straight).

Draw also the new armhole cut, 12-15cm past the new neckline.

Cut through the lines.
