Bardot dress with ruffle

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this cocktail dress.

It has a statement bardot neckline and a pencil skirt.

It can be realized in any light to medium weight fabric, better if with a little crisp hand as taffeta.

Start from a basic block with darts and zero or minimum wearing ease (depending on the fabric and on how tight you like the skirt to be). You will also need a matching basic sleeve.

Step 1

On a copy of your basic block, first draw the new hemline above the knee. Then taper 2cm inwards from the side seams, blending to hipline.

Shape center back for the dress better to follow the back curve (I would suggest 1,5cm at waist but it depends on your body).

Draw the new neckline with a soft V on both back and front. On front, widen shoulder dart by 1cm at neckline as we usually to on very open neckline.

Step 2

Trace a copy of back and front (or cut away the unnecessary parts).

Get a basic sleeve and cut it in the center.

Step 3

Get the two sleeve halves and merge them to the bodices. Align sleeve notches to armhole ones.

Continue drawing the neckline onto the sleeve pieces (mind that the line matches on front and back sleeve!).
