Bardot bodice with wide collar

4.5/5

To draft the pattern of this dress, you need to start from a fitted basic block with darts (zero to minimum wearing ease - depending on how tight you like the dress and if the fabric you use has stretch or not).

Sew it in woven fabrics with zero or minimum amount of stretch. It could be medium weight satin, taffeta, silk twill...

The tutorial focuses on bodice and collar construction. You can add any skirt you like: flared with pleats or with gathers, half or full circle...

Step 1

Start from back bodice.

Reduce the dart discarding the lost amount in center back.

Draw the new neckline – start at right angle in center back and enter approx halfway to the armhole, where notches are.

Step 2

Trace a copy of the new back bodice.

Step 3

Trace a copy of full front (you need it for front wrap).

First, mark the underbust line and widen the darts by 0,5-0,7cm on each side at it.

Then, draw the new neckline (start from the armhole matching the point to back one) with the cross front.

Lastly, widen shoulder darts by 1cm at neckline.
