Bib shirt with pussy bow collar

Style analysis: classic shirt with bib detail. The sleeves and sides of the shirt are made of lace, while the bib and the collar are in solid fabric. Sleeves are flared as a 70s vibe and end with a scalloped edge. . The lace continues along the sides of the torso, while the center of the shirt, along with the high neckline, is made of solid fabric. The contrast between the solid and lace elements creates a refined, structured look.

Fabric: combination of lace and solid fabric as crepe or satin à l'envers (used on wrong side). A more casual version would be in cotton, popeline, linen, viscose...a funny version can combine two different prints or can be a color block...so many options!

Step 1

Trace your basic bodice with darts and 12 to 14cm wearing ease at bust circ.

Our method for drafting perfectly made to measure basic blocks and for fitting them is included in our basic blocks course/module 1.

Square down from armpit to hip level and erase back waist dart (shirt is loose at waist).

On front, draw a curved line from bust point to center front at waist, then draw a slash line from shoulder line center to bust point. These two lines define the bib shape and later we’ll cut through these lines and tape shoulder dart closed.

Step 2

But before cutting through the lines, add the button stand lines 1 to 1,5cm on each side of center front line in the bib area. (Button stand will then be 2 to 3cm wide).

Cut through the lines to separate:

  • side front
  • bib
  • button stand.
Step 3

Here are the separate pieces.

Smoothen lines at bust level on side front and bib.
