Blazer with cutouts and cups

4.5/5

Let's see together how to draft the pattern for this blazer.

It has front cutouts above the cups and an interesting back detail. Definitely not a basic piece to wear, but so interesting patternwise!

Start from a basic block with appropriate wearing ease (we suggest at least 10-12cm at bust circumference) and matching 2-pieces sleeve.

Step 1

Start from back.

First draw the new hemline, then erase the dart and replace it (see the red lines):

  • with a princess cut ending at armhole absorbing 1-1,5cm, lines overlapping by 2-3cm at hem to widen it slightly
  • shaping center back by 1,5-2cm at waistline.

Draw the upper back detail as marked from the light blue lines.

Step 2

Highlight of the upper back detail.

Trace a copy of it and include in the copy the little portion of dart. Then manipulate the dart to close it.

Step 3

Trace a copy of all the other back pieces and separate them. You get:

  • center back
  • side back panel
  • upper back detail
  • armhole detail
Step 4

Then move to front.

Draw the hemline, then the cup as described in this post.

Draw the shoulder strap/armhole detail.
