Blazer with dolman sleeves

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this interesting blazer.

It has a dolman sleeve in contrasting - sheer - fabric, double breasted front and pleated sleeves.

You can use any cotton or suit fabric, and it will turn out great! Plus, the shoulder detail allows to play with a contrasting fabric, texture or embroidery.

Start from a basic block with darts (minimum wearing ease 10-12cm across bust circumference) and matching basic sleeve.

Step 1

Trace a copy of your basics, then draw the following slash lines:

  • on back, shape center slightly. Draw the princess cut starting from shoulder line, then draw a slanted slash line from side seam to dart (slightly above waistline), flare slightly at hem by drawing overlapped lines
  • on sleeve, draw the slash line from shoulder point
  • on front, manipulate the dart into the princess cut matching back measurement, then draw the slanted slash line above waist and flare slightly at hem by drawing overlapped lines. Draw the classic collar as we saw here
Step 2

Separate collar and bodice from front and manipulate shoulder darts.

Then, cut through slash lines.

Step 3

Get back bodice and back sleeve and align them by matching shoulder points. Spread pieces at notches level by 3-5cm.
