Blazer with side drawstrings

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this trendy jacket.

The super classic single breasted collar is balanced by a trendy gathered side panel.

For a summer version, you can sew it with no lining in cotton or linen, or you can use any other light to medium weight suiting fabric. We recommend something quite think not to make the drawstring too bulky.

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with front and back joined. The total width of the square is half of bust circumference +6cm ease.

Draw the overlap for button stand 2 to 3cm wide from waist line all the way down to hem. Where this line meets the waist line is 1st button position, and is where the roll line starts.

Step 2

Extend the shoulder line inwards by 2cm and draw the roll line from this point to the one you found in previous step. Roll line is where lapel folds back.

Extend roll line upward as the back neckline measurement (taken from the pattern).

Step 3

Square to the left 2,5cm, then rotate the line 2,5cm more towards the left. This helps the collar following the roundness of the neck/upper back.
