Bridesmaid asymmetric dress

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this draped dress.

It has one shoulder, dart manipulation into drape, mermaid skirt and an additional draped panel. SO many interesting details!

You can sew it in satin for the same effect as the photo, or in crepe if you like more mat fabrics.

We suggest a full lining and interlining to support the bodice part (either fusible interlining or organza).

Step 1

To draft the pattern, trace a full copy of your contoured block first.

Draw the underbust line, then make sure the waist dart is 3cm wide at it.

Cut through waistline to separate bodice and skirt.

Step 2

Get back skirt and reduce 1 to 2cm at knee level (or -better- 5 to 8cm above it) from sides and center.

Then flare at hemline 15 to 25cm from sides and center back for the mermaid style

Step 3

Add a short train to back (15 to 20cm in center back, blend to zero at side seam), then trace a copy of your new back skirt.
