Butterfly long dress

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this caftan dress with dolman sleeves.

It features an interesting style line at upper chest. You can sew it in a variety of fabrics depending on the effect you want to achieve: organza for a more formal look, cotton, linen or viscose for an easier option.

To draft the pattern start from a basic block with darts and 8 to 10cm ease on bust circumference, and a matching basic sleeve.

Step 1

Start working on front, then repeat the same steps for back too.

First, flare the skirt by 10 to 15cm at side.

Step 2

Then draw the style lines for upper chest, making sure they meet when shoulder dart is closed.

Widen neckline by 2 to 3cm from high shoulder point.

Redraw. upper part of waist dart curving it outwards, then square down from dart apex and cut through the line.

Step 3

Get the sleeve and cut it in half.
