Cool bomber jacket

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this fabulous bomber jacket. The shape is simple but if you observe the seam lines you'll see how unusual the pattern is.

It starts from a basic block without darts and matching sleeve where some slash lines are added and pieces are merged creating new shapes ;)

We suggest to start from a block with 16cm ease at bust, but you can change it according to the fit you want.

It's a cool and challenging project, and oversized bomber jackets are very trendy this year!

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start by aligning back sleeve to back bodice by matching notches.

The sleeve is slightly less angled than 90°.

Draw the yoke line from upper back to sleeve center.

Step 2

Draw a slash line on bodice from armpit point to hemline 1 to 2cm inwards to taper the jacket.

Measure 5 to 7cm from armpit point upwards along armhole line on bodice, then draw the slash line from this point to hemline.

Then measure the same amount on sleeve cap starting from armpit and draw the slash line on back sleeve.

Step 3

Cut through all slash lines:

  • upper part is back + sleeve, as is
  • middle part has back and sleeve merged at armhole, so that sleeve is at a steeper angle
  • side back panel and sleeve back panel are separate.
