Corset dress with statement sleeves

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this corset dress. The long skirt has a side slit and in the corset neckline is stitched a dolman bodice with statement sleeves.

The dress can be sewn in crepe or cady - or any other medium weight fabric with a good drape, adding organza or fusible interlining to the bodice part for support and structure.

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start from a contoured bodice.

Draw the underbust line and make front waist dart 3cm wide from waist to underbust.

Cut through the waistline to separate bodice and skirt.

Step 2

Get bodice pieces and draw the corset neckline, 1cm below armpit on side seam.

Widen shoulder dart by 1cm at new neckline.

Reduce back waist dart by 1cm and discard it from center back.

Step 3

Cut through neckline and dart lines to separate piece:

  • back bodice
  • center back and side back corset
  • front bodice
  • center front and side front corset.

Mark the grainline parallel to original center front and back on each piece.
