Corset with front drape

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this corset with cups and front drape.

The fabric has to be reinforced with drill (a non stretch, twill weave, woven fabric) or something similar that support the bones. The seam allowances are pressed to the side and topstitched to create bonecases.

To draft the pattern, start from a fitted basic block with darts and zero wearing ease. You can find all the details to create a corset block here.

Step 1

Trace a copy of back and draw the new neckline.

Start from armpit point and go towards center back lowering 2-3cm more.

Passing though dart apex is not mandatory as you’ll change the dart in next step.

Step 2

Erase the original back dart and draw 2 new ones – the total volume should be the same.

Space the darts evenly by dividing back waist line by 3.

Draw the darts so that their apex is at neckline.
