Corset with peplum

4.5/5

In this tutorial we're drafting the pattern for this corset - it creates a dramatic style when paired with a full tulle skirt and white shirt as in the photo, but looks great also with a pair of skinny jeans or trousers and biker jacket.

To draft the pattern, start from a contoured block (block with darts and zero wearing ease).

You can sew the corset in any medium weight woven fabric as taffeta, duchesse, faille, canvas, denim...

Step 1

Trace a copy of front and back.

Draw underbust line, then widen waist dart to 3cm at underbust and shape it as a rhombus. Reshape waist dart as a rhombus.

Step 2

Draw the new neckline dropping 2cm from side seam, a bit more in center back and draw the neckline of your choice on front.

Widen shoulder dart by 1cm at neckline.

Step 3

Highlight waistline, then square down from waist dart apex on both back and front and draw additional slash lines on the waist to hip section of the bodice.

Cut through waistline to separate bodice and peplum, then cut through vertical slash lines.
