Corset with scalloped cup

Style analysis: short corset with front buttoning, topstitching, petal shaped cups and 4 panels (2 on front and 2 on back). It's a cool variation of a simple corset top, perfect with high waisted trousers or skirts and layered under a jacket or chunky cardigan.

Fabric: this version is in denim but other fabrics will work too, as long as they are enough structured or have interfacing. We suggest woven, non stretch fabrics.

Step 1

Draw your contoured block (bodice with zero wearing ease and darts).

Trace front and back separate, highlight underbust line and but line on front.

A full explanation on drafting made to measure contoured blocks, corsets and cups is included in our basic blocks course/module 2.

Step 2

Work on back first:

  • drop 1 to 2cm along side seam from armhole
  • drop 2 to 3cm more along center back
  • draw the new neckline, starting at right angle from center back
  • widen dart to discard 0,6 to 0,8cm on each side at new neckline.

Cut through the lines.

Step 3

Close dart if you want back to be made of a single piece, or keep the two pieces separate if you like the vertical seam.

I couldn’t find the back photo of this corset so both the options are possible, as well as an elasticated/smocked back that would make fitting easier.
