Cowl neckline top

Let's draft together the pattern for this halter neck top. It features a cowl neckline and open back, held on center back by a small chain.

The perfect fabric is something light to medium weight, with a good drape.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts.

You can learn our method for drafting perfectly made to measure basic blocks (contoured ones, and the ones with wearing ease) and for fitting them in our basic blocks course/module 1.

Step 1

Trace a copy of your block with darts. Erase waist ones and make back and front all the way the same measurement from bust to hips.

Draw a slash line from bust point perpendicular to center front. Cut through the line to close shoulder dart.

Step 2

Get back and front: match them at high shoulder point and overlap shoulder line by 3cm at outer edge.

Draw the halter neckline from center back.

Step 3

Separate back and front and draw the back neckline.
