Cropped jeans jacket

4.5/5

A jacket pattern that features a simple dart manipulation and a classic collar construction, perfect for beginners that want to give jackets a try!

Since it's made of denim (or any other medium weight cotton - cotton blend), it can be finished without any lining: this is saving you some headaches :)

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts with at least 8 to 10cm ease at bust circumference and matching sleeve.

Step 1

First, trace a copy of front and back and shorten it few cm above waistline.

Then redraw waist darts: they should be in the center of back and front hemline to have even scallops.

Draw the line connecting bust point to waist dart apex on front (this will allow you to manipulate shoulder dart).

Step 2

Cut through waist dart on front and through the short line ending at bust point, then close shoulder dart.

Redraw dart apex 2 to3cm lower than bust point.

Step 3

Pick the starting point for roll line on center front, 4 to 6cm above hemline.

Pick a point 2 to 2,5cm inward from high shoulder point, then connect the two points with a line. This is the roll line, where lapel folds back.
