Cross back jumpsuit

4.5/5

Let's see the steps to draft the pattern of this elegant jumpsuit.

It has an interesting dart manipulation in front bodice, an open back with cross straps and patch pockets with flaps.

To draw the pattern, start from a fitted basic bodice with darts and basic pant.

You can sew it in basically any medium weight woven fabric, but as for every pant/jumpsuit we suggest to use something that has a little stretch to make the garment more comfortable.

Step 1

Start from a copy of basic pants.

Taper the leg to have it fitted (measure at your knee and ankle the circumferences you like most and put them back onto the pattern).

On front, erase the dart and discard its amount from center, then draw the rounded, jeans-like pocket.

Step 2

Get front bodice and draw the style lines and lines for dart manipulation:

  • draw the underbust line first
  • then draw the new armhole
  • lastly, draw the side panel and the slash line coming from it to bust point.
Step 3

Get a copy of full back bodiceand merege it to front bodice at shoulder line.

Draw the back strap as an extension of front one, coming to back side seam, and the back bodice piece/back neckline).
