Dior skirt

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this amazing wide skirt.

You can sew it in any lightweight but slightly stiff fabric - silk taffeta would be just perfect.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic skirt with darts - have you taken our free pre-course to create a perfect fitting skirt block? You can find it here.

Step 1

First, make front and back the same width at waist and hips.

Trace a copy of one of them, then square down from dart apex all the way to the hemline.

Flare 5 to 7cm from side.

Step 2

Cut through the slash line and close waist dart, opening a matching volume at hemline. Redraw the hem.

Step 3

Then draw a parallel line to the waist (so, slightly curved upwards) passing through dart apex, approx 15cm below waistline. This is A-A line.

Measure A-A line and mark its middle point.

Label B-B the hemline and mark as B its middle point.

Join middle point A with B with a straight line.
