Double breasted A-line coat

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this double breasted coat.

It has a simple silhouette yet very flattering and elegant.

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with minimum 12cm ease at bust - adjust the ease according to the fit you prefer and to the materials you are using.

Step 1

Draw the basic with darts, then adjust the length and flare 5 to 8cm from sides.

Draw the slash line for princess cut ending at armhole and manipulate all darts in the lines.

Step 2

Cut through slash lines discarding volume of waist darts in them and closing shoulder dart on front piece.

Flare 5 to 8cm on the side of each piece.

Step 3

Redraw all pieces with the new volume, then mark grainline on all of them perpendicular to hemline/waistline.
