Double breasted shirt

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this classy shirt.

You can sew it in a variety of different weights, it can become a jacket or coat or even a dress.

The original piece is done with cotton twill and organza sleeves ;) To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and minimum 10cm ease at bust, and matching sleeve.

Step 1

First, draw the new neckline widening neckline 4 to 6cm from high shoulder point. Widen shoulder dart by 1,5cm at front neckline.

From center front add 6 to 8cm outwards for double breatsed buttoning.

Then redraw armhole inwards by reducing shoulder top by 1 to 2cm.

Redraw the hemline shaping it slightly shorter at sides.

Step 2

Cut through alòl front lines, then cut through dart lines to close shoulder dart.

Step 3

See how front has changed?

Draw a matching slash line on back and cut through it.
