Draped halter dress

4.5/5

Pattern tutorial for a stunning dress: you can make it as a bridal dress, bridesmaid or skip back bow and buttoning and turn it into an easier wear.

Choose a drapey, medium weight fabric as silk cady or crepe. We suggest to add full lining or, if the fabric is lightweight, to use it also for the inner layer.

To draft the patter, start from a basic block with darts and small wearing ease (0cm wearing ease if you want the dress to be super tight and fabric stretches, 2 to 4cm -especially at hips- if you like the fit to be a little looser).

Step 1

Draw the halter neckline on back and front. Widen shoulder dart by 1cm at front neckline, then mirror front pattern to make it full.

Cut through waist line to separate bodices and skirts. Cut also through the new neckline.

Step 2

On front bodice, draw a slash line from left bust point to left side seam 2 to 4cm below armpit. Cut through the line to close left shoulder dart.

On front skirt, draw the slash line from a point on side seam 10 to 12cm below waistline, passing through left dart apex and ending at opposite side seam. Cut through the line and close left waist dart.

Close waist dart on back bodice.

Step 3

On front skirt, draw one additional slash line from right dart apex to left side seam, 2 to 4cm below waistline.

Cut through the line and close right dart.

On front bodice, close also left waist dart.
