Draped skirt with front slit

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this skirt.

The interesting detail is that there's no side seam - so you have a left piece and a right one joined at center back (where you sew a zipper) and at center front (where they create the slit).

Darts are manipulated into gathers that drape on center front.

You can sew it in almost any light to medium weight fabric, use something soft and drapey to avoid bulk at center front gathers.

Step 1

Start from the pattern of a fitted pencil skirt.

Adjust the length as first thing because it will be a bit hard todo it afterwards.

You can make it below the knee as this one but also a long version would be fabulous!

Step 2

Merge back and front pieces at side seam. Then draw two slash lines from center front (approx starting at 7 and 9cm from waistline): one line goes to front dart apex, the other line to back dart apex.

Cut through slash lines to manipulate darts.

Step 3

Close front and back darts while opening the volume in the new slash line. Consider the gap you had between front and back as a third dart and close it the same way.

Then, draw a new slash line in the upper front part. Cut through this line.
