Draped skirt

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern of this draped skirt.

You can use very different fabrics, such as crepe, cady, satin, viscose, or other flowy fabrics - but you can also use lycra or jersey if you start from a basic block with negative ease!

Step 1

Start from a basic skirt with darts – eventually with negative ease allowance if you plan to use a very stretchy fabric.

On front, draw some slash lines from center front (every 2cm approx) downwards to the side seam (every 4cm approx).

Cut away the front dart.

Step 2

Once you removed the dart, cut through the front slash lines.

Step 3

Open the volume for the drape by adding 1,5-3cm in each cut in center front. The amount you add varies according to the fabric you are using, so make a test first.

Close the dart while opening the new volume.
