Draped wrap dress

4.5/5

A super classy dress that is also perfect for wedding season: draft the pattern by starting from a basic block with darts, follow the instructions to manipulate darts into the drape and get a silky fabric to sew it - it will be quicker than you think!

Step 1

Trace a copy of your basic dress with darts with 6cm ease at bust, 4cm at waist and hips.

Mirror front and adjust length, then draw underbust line and widen waist dart to 3cm at it.

Taper skirt reducing by 2cm at hemline on sides.

Step 2

In center front raise 3 to 4cm from underbust line to find the deepest neckline point.

Move sideways 3 to 5cm from high shoulder point and draw the new V neckline, then from deepest point of neckline connect to side seam at underbust line.

Make sure lines are symmetric.

Step 3

Cut through the neckline and slanted underbust line, then on bodice create a dart perpendicular to neckline and 1cm wide. Cut through underbust dart and close shoulder and additional dart.

On skirt, draw the wrap side from right dart line to hemline – make sure the line is straightish towards the knee, then curved, then cut through the line
