Dress with gathered skirt and statement sleeves

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this trendy dress.

It is perfect for spring and fall but we think it would be cool also layered with a cozy maxi cardigan in winter.

You could sew it in any light to medium weight fabric, from plain cotton to viscose, to crepe or satin...

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start from a dress block with darts and appropriate ease to the fabric you plan to use. For non stretch, lightweight fabric we suggest 2 to 6cm ease at bust.

Draw the underbust line and change front waist dart so that it is 3cm wide from waist to underbust.

Step 2

From underbust line on front, drop 2 to 4cm at side and draw the waistband line slanted, then match the measurement on back and draw the waistband straight.

Step 3

Cut through waistline and waistband line to separate 3 pieces on back and 3 on front:

  • bodice
  • waistband, on which you tape darts closed
  • skirt.
