Dress with gathers

Here is the tutorial to draft a simple yet detailed dress. The classic side panels are paired with unusual gatherings at front for a fresh look.

You can sew it. in any shirting cotton, viscose or other lightweight fabrics.

It is possible to add a shorter, plain lining to conceal all seam lines from the inside, or just to finish neckline and armhole with facing or binding ;)

Step 1

Start by tracing a copy of basic dress with dart with 2 to 6cm ease at bust circ.

Lengthen the dress to 3/4, then draw underbust line and widen waist dart so that it is 3cm at underbust. Shape dart as a rocket.

Step 2

Redraw underbust line raising it by 4 or 5cm in center front and drawing a soft curve from dart to center front.

Cut through the line and separate bodice and skirt on back and front.

Step 3

On front bodice, cut through underbust dart and close shoulder dart shifting all its volume at underbust.
