Evening dress with drape + side slit

4.5/5

Wedding season is about to start and it's time for long formal dresses! This is quite a simple one yet it's very sophisticated and flattering to different body types.

Pick a nice fabric (solid color or print as you prefer) - this is silk taffeta - then trace a copy of your contoured block and start drafting the pattern!

Step 1

Lengthen the dress to ground, then flare 3 to 5cm from sides.

Draw also the new neckline on both back and front.

Then trace a copy of back and front mirrored, then on front draw the slash line from left side 10 to 12cm below waistline to right side seam at hipline. Lengthen front waist darts to hit the slash line.

Step 2

Get back and cut through the neckline, then reduce darts and discard part of it from center back, shaping it. Reduce darts accordingly.

Step 3

At this point, you can use just half of the back.

Get front, cut through the neckline and slash line.

Widen both shoulder darts by 1cm at neckline to make dress tighter to the chest.
