Front drape midi dress

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this dress.

It has an interesting drape at front that creates an asymmetric look by manipulating dart volume.

Start from a basic block with darts and matching sleeve.

It is realized in silk satin, but other light to medium weight fabric will work.

Step 1

Start from full back and full front.

Redraw the armhole line 2cm inward at shoulder, then draw the asymmetrical hem.

Step 2

Get the back and shape it from the center as shown here. Reduce darts accordingly.

Step 3

Separate the armhole pieces, then get front and draw the slash lines for the drape.

You aim at closing the existing darts and opening their volume in the new lines.
