Front overlap cocktail dress

4.5/5

Let's draft together this interesting pattern. It features a front overlap and some interesting cuts on the skirt.

It can be realized in crepe, crepe cady or ponte. Also other medium weight fabrics will work, but the drape will be different.

Start from a basic block with darts with very small wearing ease - eventually 2cm in each circumference.

Step 1

On basic block, start from bodice. First, draw the new armhole and front neckline. On front and back draw the waistband, taper the skirt and draw the hemline. On front only, draw the overlap on bodice and the style lines on skirt.

Step 2

Cut through the lines and get ready to manipulate shoulder dart into waist one on front.

Step 3

Trace the two separate fronts.

On each, draw an additional dart 1,5cm wide at neckline, approximately at bust height.

This helps the neckline to sit tighter to the chest.

Step 4

Manipulate the darts to close them and trace new copies.
