Front twist dress

4.5/5

To draft the pattern of this dress, start from a basic block with darts and small wearing ease.

You also need a matching sleeve.

Sew it in any lightweight, drapey fabric as crepe, satin, viscose...

The tutorial focuses on knot/twist manipulation and on raised shoulders for high shoulder pads - 80s are back!

Step 1

Trace a copy of front and back and adjust skirt length. Then reduce 2-3cm from each side at skirt hem and blend to hip line.

Redraw center back shaping it and reduce back waist dart to keep the original waist measurement.

Step 2

The shaped center back better follows the body curve 😉

Step 3

On front, extend waist line outward by 3cm from center front and from this point to high shoulder point draw the V neckline.

Connect the waist point also to center front hem.

Draw a small dart 1cm wide approx halfway in front neckline up to bust point. Close this little dart and transfer its volume to shoulder dart.

Step 4

See that shoulder dart now is a bit wider. Redraw a smooth line at neckline.

Separate bodice and skirt by cutting on waistline.
