Gathered dress with side slit

4.5/5

Let's see the steps to turn a basic block with darts into this amazing midi dress.

It has a side slit and gathered sleeves.

We suggest to sew it in any light to medium weight woven fabric with a small amount of stretch for extra comfort.

Step 1

To draft the pattern, start from a basic block with darts and few cm wearing ease, according to the fabric and style you prefer.

First draw the slash line that separates bodice and skirt:

  • on back, it’s parallel to waistline, 4 to 6cm above it
  • on front, it starts from a matching point at side seam and is slanted upwards toward center front.

On back, discard the dart from center.

On front, make it 3cm wide from waist to slash line.

Step 2

Separate bodice and skirt pieces by cutting on the slash line.

Cut through shoulder dart on front and close waist dart manipulating its volume into shoulder one.

Step 3

On back bodice, draw a slash line from shoulder line to add volume for shoulder gathers.

On front, draw slash lines from neckline to add gathers there as well.
