Halter neck draped dress

4.5/5

Let's draft together the pattern for this draped halter dress.

It's a versatile piece that you can layer with a cardigan in spring, dress up with heels or dress down with sneakers, and will be worn for the whole summer.

Start from a basic block with darts and zero wearing ease, and pick a lightweight woven fabric from your stash! You can use everything, from shirting cotton to viscose or silk satin ;)

Step 1

Trace a copy of your basic block and mirror front for the asymmetric skirt line.

Draw the 3/4 length, then flare sides by 5 to 7cm at hemline.

Draw the asymmetric skirt line as a curve downward from right waist point to hem, then draw the asymmetric front lengths.

Step 2

Cut through the skirt slash lines to separate front and right side panel, then draw the new neckline:

  • straight across back, from armpit (or 1cm below it) to center back
  • halter in front (matching the measurement on side seam to the back one).

Cut away the part above necklines.
