Halter neck jumpsuit

4.5/5

Let's see together how to draft the pattern of this amazing jumpsuit.

It features an open back, a halter front neckline, a relaxed fit with gathers at the neckline and at the back.

I'm sure we all need it in our summer wardrobe!

The perfect fabric is lightweight and flowy, I prefer natural ones so I would go for a cotton or - even better - viscose, but also a polyester crepe or satin would give a nice effect.

Step 1

Start from a basic bodice and a basic pant.

On the bodice, draw first the front halter neckline ending in the side seam few cm below the armpit.

Take the same measurement on the side seam of back bodice and draw the new neckline going to the waist line in center back.

Step 2

On both front and back, cut through the new neckline.

Erase the waist darts (the whole one on front and the little part of it on back).

On front, draw a slanted line from the neckline to the bust point. Cut through this line and manipulate the original shoulder dart opening it in the new position.

Step 3

On front, fill the gap with paper and mark the gather.

Remember to mark the original measurement (prior to the added volume from the dart manipulation) to know how much you need to pull the threads when sewing.

This is what front and back bodice look like at this stage.
