Jacket dress with cutout and slit

4.5/5

A very cool dress and a quite complicated pattern: this vest includes lots of details.

The starting point is a block with 8 to 10cm ease at bust, loose at waist (14 to 20cm ease) and quite fitted at hips (we suggest 4cm ease).

Step 1

First, draw or trace a copy of your basic block without shoulder dart.

Erase side dart and draw verticals slash lines to create 3 pieces: back, a single side panel, front. In each line you can create a discard of 3 to 4cm, depending on the ease you give at waist (see introduction for our suggestion on ease).

There might be an overlap on back, depending on your hip circumference (usually it is 2 to 4cm).

Step 2

Shape center back slightly by measuring down from nape point 10 to 12cm and using this as a starting point for a slanted line that takes in 1,5 to 2cm at waistline.

Extend the line parallel to center back all the way down.

Step 3

On front, extend waist line past center by 6 to 10cm for the buttoning and connect this point to high shoulder point. This slanted line is the collar fold line or roll line.

Extend the line parallel to center front from waist all the way down.
