Long dress with back cowl neck

4.5/5

A stunning evening dress that is perfect as a bridal dress too.

To draft the pattern, start from a dress block with zero to minimum ease (we recommend 2cm at hips). Pick a light to medium weight flowy fabric as satin, crepe or cady and enjoy your newest make!

Step 1

Trace a copy of your dress block, then adjust length to the ground.

Flare 10 to 16cm from side seams, then cut through waistline to separate front and back skirts from bodices.

On skirt pieces, square down from dart apex to hemline and cut through slash line.

Step 2

Close waist dart on skirt manipulating its volume at hemline, then trace a copy of skirts.

Step 3

On bodice, eliminate back dart by discarding it from center.

On front bodice, draw the new neckline measuring up 7 to 10cm from armpit and moving inwards 1 to 2cm from armhole. Neckline is perpendicular to center front.

Still on front, draw 2 slash lines from armhole to bust point. Cut through the lines, close shoulder and waist dart and open a matching volume in the new lines.
