Maxi dress with cutouts

4.5/5

A maxi dress perfect for spring and summer, easy to dress up or down according to the accessories.

Start by tracing a copy of your block with darts and matching sleeve, then pick a lightweight fabric (silk satin for something more formal, cotton or viscose for an easier option).

Step 1

Adjust length to the ground on front and add a short train (approx 10cm) on center back, blending to zero to the side.

Flare side seams by 8 to 10cm and center back by 10 to 15cm.

Step 2

Reshape center back at waist taking in 2cm (blend to zero at shoulder blades and hip line) and balance the volume by reducing dart width.

Draw the horizontal slash line 3cm above waistline on back and shaped upwards toward center front.

Step 3

On back, cut through slash line to separate bodice and skirt.

On front, draw the cutout from center front to a point 4 to 6cm before side seam. Cut through the lines.
