Midi dress with front drape

4.5/5

Let's draft the pattern for this simple but interesting midi dress.

Darts are manipulated into a volume that gathers at front and there are dolman sleeves.

We suggest to pick a soft, medium weight fabric as crepe or ponte to sew this dress. Depending on fabric and weight, you can add or avoid lining.

Step 1

First trace a copy of front and back.

Raise back neckline and high shoulder point by 1cm, back shoulder point by 2cm.

Drop high shoulder point on front by 1cm and raise shoulder point on front by 1cm (basically, reduce shoulder slope on both pieces and shift shoulder line forward).

Step 2

Then drop armpit point by 4 to 6cm and widen at bust circumference by 1,5 to 3cm on each part.

Redraw side seam on both front and back.

Step 3

Create the dolman ‘butterfly’ sleeve on both front and back.
